One of the biggest culprits of house damage is water intrusion and the first line of defense is making sure your house properly sheds water and directs it away from your house. Your entire house exterior works together to shed water but today I'm going to focus on just the gutters and downspouts. Most people get the concept; water hits the roof, runs off into the gutters and then down the downspouts. Easy, right? Well, sort of. There's lots of little things that go into the gutter system, such as the pitch of the gutter, how many downspouts per section of gutter, the positioning of the gutters along the eave, etc. I won't go over all the things to look for, but below are some easy DIY things you can do at your house to make sure your gutter and downspout system are in good condition.
